You’d better believe I’m pretty darn proud of myself for this.
Here are the new curtains I made myself this weekend:
Cute, right? I love the color, and I’m happy that I made them myself.
But what I love most is that I made these out of a duvet cover:
I’d looked for the right color curtains for a few weeks. Failing that I decided I would just make my own. Well, wouldn’t you know I just fell in love with a color that didn’t exist? I mean, it exists but not at the fabric store. Everything I found was a few shades off. I resigned myself to the fact that I would have to find a different kind of curtain.
And then I was at Target with Kathy and we found a set of sheets that were exactly right. Only I wasn’t sure mitigating that whole fitted sheet situation would be easy enough to make it worthwhile.
Then we found the duvet cover. It was an extra-long twin size, which meant it was exactly the right length. I was only briefly thrown off when I found out that one side was striped and the other was solid (thank you, Target, for your strangeness). Even so, it was like it was meant to be. The longest part of the project was ripping out the seams – which made me really glad that the duvet had been on clearance because it was actually really poorly assembled.
Then I split each side into two, which gave me four panels. I finished the edges and wound up with a very simple set of curtains that look awesome. And for only $17 – way less than I would have spent if I’d bought them pre-made, or even if I’d just bought the fabric. It was ridiculously easy – if you can sew a straight line, you could do this too.
They still need to be ironed and actually hemmed (you can see that they’re a tiny bit long) but I’m very close to being done and I love them!
Are you crafty? What craft projects have you done lately (or would you do if you had the time!)?
