Starting Fresh
| January 3, 2012 | Filled under Getting Healthy |
I’m dreading my weigh in on Wednesday, and here’s why:
I probably could have been really awesome and condensed that into a nifty collage for you, but I think this way you get the full weight of each of those choices. Remember when I said I had a plan? I never finished it, and then I lost it.
For the past two weeks I have eaten absolutely whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. And while I did my best to push away the little voice that said “um, really?” because I didn’t want to be that girl who hated her way through the holidays, I couldn’t turn off the fact that my body wasn’t feeling awesome while I ate whatever I felt like. It also refused to work as hard as I wanted it to, which also made me feel bad.
But with the holidays behind me I’m really looking forward to a fresh start. I’m not making any resolutions this year – not in the classic sense. My one goal for this year is to earn my Louboutins.
To get to my goal weight, I have a few smaller goals I want to reach first. If you’ve been reading for a few months you’ll remember that I was in a competition at my gym. I ended up coming in second and lost 13 pounds. A new contest is starting this week and I plan to win this time. I’d really like to lose 15 pounds this time around and I’m pretty sure I can do it.
And of course there’s TWLC2 which ends in April. I haven’t been keeping up with the other competitors to see how they’re doing but I know that they’re working hard so I may already be out of the running. My goal for this one is just to finish it and know that I did my best.
To help me stick to my gym habits, I’ve signed up for Gympact - it’s a program where you make a pact to go to the gym a certain number of times a week. Each time you don’t go, you pay a fee (a minimum of $5). When you do go, you get paid from the money other people are losing by not going. I set my pact small so I can just make sure I’m in the habit of checking in each time I go to the gym but once I know I’ll remember to check in I plan to up my pact by one day a month.
As far as food goes, I’m not really sure how to keep myself accountable. I have a food journal that my trainer checks every week and that seems to help – but I find that it doesn’t impact my decisions as much as it used to. Especially in the face of something delicious.
So it’s an ongoing process, and I guess that’s why this is such hard work. There’s no one right answer or formula to follow. A lot of this is trial and error. But I’m ready to work harder than I’ve ever worked before and get what I want most.
What are you looking forward to about 2012? Do you set resolutions?

What is that chocolate cookie?! Is that caramel inside??

I really like the gympact idea, but I’m sad it doesn’t work for runs that aren’t done at a gym yet. I hope they figure that out soon

I agree about the runs and would love to see that happen in the future. Since the app is GPS-based it seems like it wouldn’t be hard to do with all of the GPS-based running “tools” out there. I think it has lots of potential so let’s hope they’re able to tap into that!
That cookie is a salted caramel chocolate cookie. My friend Erika made them for our cookie exchange and I can get the recipe for you if you’re interested. They were absolutely amazing!
It’s probably bad that this post made me mega hungry. Anyways, I’m hearing good things about Gympact. I’m not sure I’d be able to bring myself to pony up the cash (which I suppose is part of the problem). Good luck!
