Happy Thursday!! It’s time for another Journey Forward Post. Today we’re discussing the progress we’ve made so far this year.

I’m still not quite to my first goal of losing 10 pounds but I hope to be there soon – and my chance to reach my second goal is coming up one week from tomorrow so that may be something I have to move to a different order (or just let go of, but I’ll decide that later!)
Sadly, I think I’ve spent too much time working on the believing and not enough on the making things happen. But this year is not over and there’s plenty of time to accomplish what I set out to do.
I think it all comes down to something I’ve already said:
Life has ups and downs and nothing and no one can keep them from going away. Things change, people get sick, we lose people we love for no good reason – all things that are completely out of our control. But some things we CAN be responsible for and so I say to you that you need to be the one who stands up and takes control of the things you want to change about your life.Whatever it is that you want – do it. Go after it. Stop sitting around wishing and hoping that things will be different and stop imagining how good things would be “if only.” Make those things happen for yourself. YOU make the changes you need to make 2012 the best year of your life. No one else is going to do it for you, and no amount of hoping is going to change your life. You have to take action.
And that’s simply all there is to it. Go and do.

So now it’s your turn - what are you proud of accomplishing this year? What’s up next on your list of goals for this year?

My name is Kate. I'm a makeup and coffee addict (and total Jesus freak) fighting to lose over 100 pounds. But there's more to life than losing weight. This is where I try to balance it all - and hilarity ensues.

Believing is a big part of working towards achieving your goals…it sounds like you’re ready to go after them more aggressively now!

Such good advice, Kate. I really want to get a job that uses my new masters degree. What I secretly want is to be a professor. I guess the first step is sending out my resume!

I think I’m in the same place as you – too much hope and optimism, not enough realism and action. Example: I’m not losing as much weight as I “should” be, given my deficit. I just keep hoping the scale will move more and thinking it will just fix itself. Um, no, Sable. Time to get the ol’ thyroid checked and start weighing condiments to make sure I’m not eating like 400 calories’ worth of ketchup and marinara sauce a day. Don’t laugh. It’s entirely possible. I freaking love marinara sauce!
It’s such a trap we fall into isn’t it? You want to be positive and think good thoughts but at the same time it’s sometimes difficult to stay grounded in the reality of it all. Sure, I’m making progress, but I “should” be doing better and would be if I was more attentive to my habits and behaviors. And I could stand to step up my workouts too.
I know what you mean about the believing and not just making things happen. That’s why one of my goals is to stop planning and start doing! I think the quote you used above is awesome. “Whatever it is that you want – do it.” Sometimes it’s really just as simple as that!
