Christmas in July

July 25, 2012

in Random Thoughts

I’m onto you. All of you.

See, one thing about being sick is that you suddenly get all this time to do things like sit on Pinterest and not feel like you’re wasting what could otherwise be productive time. Cause you know, you’re sick, and there’s no such thing as productive time when you’re sick. Except when there is and I may have written 12,000 words yesterday but that’s not my point.

My point is that I’ve seen what you’re up to and it’s sick and it’s twisted and I love every second of it.

Pinning Christmas decorations. In July.

I’d love to take credit for this but I know it has less to do with me and more to do with the nature of Pinterest in general. Once you get sucked into a theme it’s hard to break out of it. And today I bring you proof of that with some of my favorite Christmas things I’ve found lately:

I love what happens when you hang a cluster of ornaments together:

The color scheme and simple elements of this place setting are really gorgeous:

If you have the space for it (and don’t have dogs and children who might feel like playing with them) I love how the mantle decorations flow onto the hearth here:

This wreath is not something I’d think of as being “my style” but I sure do love it anyway!

Love these black and white ornaments.

This is a key that’s supposed to be special for Santa to use to get in and out of the house but don’t you think keys would be a really fun theme to incorporate into your decorations?

I love the unexpected elements in these next pins. The silver tray wreath:

Legos!

Finally, for the fashion obsessed out there – a Chanel-themed tree:

What do you think, friends? Are you thinking about Christmas yet? Or are you still marveling over the fact that it’s almost August already??

I’m there with you. I’ve been Pinning things for fall and Christmas for a while now. I’m weeding through and deciding what I’m going to do (rather than what I like) and I’m going to buy the supplies in the coming weeks so there are no excuses!

I’ve started pinning fall stuff just today after admitting I have to get through fall before I can decorate for Christmas. But maybe I should start a board titled “Things I will actually do” because you’re right – it’s fun to pin stuff you like but not enough time/energy/resources/reality to DO all of that. AND it’s a good idea to start buying the supplies cause then you won’t run out of time!

I am so, so excited for Christmas this year! There’s a discount site running Christmas in July specials today and I’m resisting the urge to shop.

Oh, but a sale!! I get it, but…I don’t like being responsible. Adulthood is lame sometimes. I’m not excited for Christmas itself but I’m excited for decorating. That’s one step closer to being excited for Christmas though and that’s a good thing : )

Thanks, Jessica. I know, it’s kind of weird to be thinking about Christmas when the weather clearly says “summer!” I’m not super excited for the cold weather but I do want to start working on decorations a little bit : )

I know, right???? I love the fleur-de-lis too (lises? how do you pluralize that? All that French immersion…) Maybe you can compromise and do half in Chanel and half in his sports team or something else he loves? OR his and hers trees? Cause two trees isn’t excessive or anything… : )
