Getting Back

July 10, 2012

I’m back – sort of. I’m doing that post-vacation thing where I’m in denial that I’m actually back to my regular life as of today and trying to figure out ways to get out of participating in life like a responsible adult.

I don’t have tons of pictures to share with you since the things you really want to see are all from the time when I was being a bridesmaid and not taking pictures, but I have a few on my phone that I can post until I get the others that I do have loaded and edited.

I think I left off on Friday when all the fun really began. Everyone started arriving from out of town, we had to rush all the decorations to the hotel before the events manager left for the day,  and then the bridal party hurried off to get our nails done before the rehearsing started.

Here’s a peek at the aisle decoration and centerpieces:

You’ve seen my rehearsal dinner dress already, but here’s the finished look:

And I tried out that Maybelline color tattoo shadow that night. I put it on pretty lightly because I didn’t want to look ridiculous:

But I was really happy at the end of the night when my eyes looked exactly the same as what you see above. Not only that, but the touch of pink I dabbed in the corner of my eye was also just as vibrant as when I started. I’m a fan.

After the rehearsal dinner it was time to party. We headed back to the hotel for a round of Kings/Circle of Death and then headed out to a club.

I haven’t been to a club in a very long time and I honestly cannot remember the last time I hung out with any of my brothers friends so it was a really good night. I also had a lot of fun getting to know the other bridesmaids. Everyone was very impressed by my sober dancing abilities, and my sister in law even commented that she’d never seen me have so much fun before. I guess I’m usually kind of quiet around everyone!

The wedding day got off to a quiet start since it had been a pretty late night. I actually ended up getting myself some breakfast and then sitting in bed with my laptop writing until it was time for our bridal party luncheon. I did snap some detail shots of all the accessories and “getting ready” time that I’ll be able to share with you later. In the meantime, here’s the obligatory dress shot (you may have seen the b+w version on Instagram  - sorry to repeat!):

Then it was hair and make up time and before we really knew what was happening it was time to get dressed!

I was really, really happy with how my hair and makeup turned out. It was just beautiful and I almost never wear red lipstick so that was a lot of fun:

The ceremony seemed to fly by – I was proud of myself for not sobbing though I did get pretty teary watching my brother as he tried not to cry. We took our pictures during the cocktail hour and Brandie changed into a different dress for the reception. We all changed our shoes at that point because even my awesome flats gave me blisters : (

It was an amazing night – and the reception was pretty magical. I’m hoping someone out there snapped a picture of the wedding cake before they whisked it off to be cut because it was a giant red and gold masterpiece. All of the food was delicious and we had a lot of fun dancing – though we struggled mightily to remember how to do the electric slide. It was an uncoordinated mess and probably one of the most hilarious things I’ve seen lately.

A lot of the guests and bridal party ended up going out after the reception but I was exhausted and tucked myself into bed around 2 that night. It ended up being a good call because I barely managed to drag myself to my own Survivor’s Brunch the next morning.

Fortunately/unfortunately I was among the ones who were in the best shape at breakfast. I’d been joking about the “survivor” part but it became a more literal theme for some of the cousins who’d been out after the wedding the night before.

It just wouldn’t be right to end this post without the famous red velvet waffle, right?

Oh, holy yum.

After brunch I headed straight for home. It took me almost 8 hours to get there because of the traffic and I’ve never been so happy to climb into my own bed before. I made the drive down and back all by myself which I cannot recommend strongly enough. Everyone kept saying they felt bad that I was driving alone but I was happy to set my own pace, rock out to my choice of music, and just be alone with my thoughts.

I spent yesterday lazing around, getting more writing done, and just generally recovering from the trip. I could have handled one more day of solitude but my parents got back last night so that put an end to my glorious alone time.

Today I’m determined to tackle the pile of work that’s waiting for me at the office and eventually catch up on everyone’s blogs! In the meantime – give me the short version? What’s been going on in your world lately?

Thanks, Lisa! I got that at Lord and Taylor. It’s the Ralph by Ralph Lauren color block dress if that helps.

Thanks, Carly! My sister in law loves fashion so I cannot take all the credit for the accessories cause she gave me a lot of guidance but I know we were both happy with how it all came together. I just wish those shoes weren’t so painful cause I adore them and would love to wear them basically nonstop!

You look gorgeous in the bridesmaid dress and the wedding sounds like it was a lot of fun! I also think I need a red velvet waffle some time…

Thanks!! We need to scout out a red velvet waffle opportunity in this area – though maybe it would be dangerous to know I could have one whenever I wanted. I think I’ll take the risk, haha!

I LOVE driving long distances by myself, especially if I have no time line to get there, or to get back. Just me and the radio. Just from looking at the decorations I can tell the wedding was beautiful!

Yes, long trips with no schedule are the best!! I sometimes get nervous at night but during the day I am happy to wind my way through little towns off the highway and scout out cute coffee shops and incredibly random “sightseeing” opportunities. I’m a big day dreamer so I find myself picturing what my life might be like if I lived there and all that fun stuff.

The wedding definitely was beautiful! Brandie did an amazing job and she made most of the decorations herself!
