Pinterest in Real Life: The Rhinestone iPhone Case

I saw this on Pinterest and knew immediately I would be using it for today’s post:

Be sure you #YOLO responsibly, kids.

I’ve had the kind of morning where you just wake up and are in a bad mood for no reason. I mean, “because it’s morning and a Monday” is basically no reason, right?

At any rate, I’m linking up with Molly and Carly for today’s #YOLOmonday linkup! Are you linking up? Cause you should. There are no topics or rules about your post content so you pretty much have no excuse not to do this.

I have one thing to show for my weekend and it’s this:

I’d been rocking my polka dot iPhone case for a while, but it had a pretty thick profile so every time I wanted to put it in a dock (basically every time I shower) I had to take the case off. And then I developed a nasty habit of dropping my phone so the case was getting pretty banged up.

I started looking online for cute cases and found this one:

It’s over the top (and I think those nails are scary) but I kind of loved it.

Then I found this tutorial and I knew it was all over.

I ordered the supplies and got to work. It was probably the easiest project I’ve done lately and I think the results are pretty fabulous. I think it looks even better in real life, and, yes, it looked good even before I applied the novelty filters.

This is either your kind of thing or it’s not, so I’ll get it if you’re like “Kate, that’s kind of gaudy.”

The only valid concern that I have is something Katie brought up on my Facebook page – it’s all fun and games until the rhinestones fall off. Since I started using the case, I’ve found rhinestones everywhere. I can’t find any holes on my case where they would be missing so I don’t think they’re falling off… Is it because they got stuck to the case or my hands or clothes by mistake when I was doing the project? Now I used industrial strength e-6000 glue as the tutorial instructed so I hope I won’t have to worry about losing the bling for quite a while. But I promise to keep you updated!

Would you rock a blinged out iPhone case? Or does this give you gypsy-wedding-type anxiety? What did you do with your weekend?

I sent this pin to my Mom forever ago and she loved it but isn’t so crafty. I kept thinking that I should do one for her! Was it difficult? I’d imagine that it was time consuming to glue everything? Did you have a plan or just start sticking? So many questions haha. Better yet.. you should start selling them and then I can just buy one ;)

I thought it was really easy – you just spread the glue and stick them on. I didn’t really have a pattern in mind when I started, I just sort of filled in with what I had and tried not to get too repetitive. But yes, the time is the hard part. It took me two hours to do the back of the case, then you need to wait overnight before you can do the sides.

I honestly have given thought to selling them on Etsy or something, but I feel like I’d get sick of it really fast, haha.

I died when I found that meme. It’s probably not nice to laugh at but I’m doing it anyway. And thank you!

Ok, first thing’s first. I laughed so hard at the opening meme that I managed to choke on water and almost pee myself.

Secondly, I think that case fits you. You did a fabulous job on it.

Third, those fingernails are awful.

Fourth, I think your blog is funny (Or was that in a different post? I’m too lazy to scroll up). I like to imagine how I think you’d say certain things.

Fifth, my shoulder just popped.

I hope that as you read my blog you can imagine my voice reading it to you. Maybe I should add that feature when I re-design. I don’t think a lot of other bloggers are doing that, maybe I can start a trend! But thank you for saying that I’m funny. I have my moments :) And thank you for everything else you said too, including the part about your shoulder. That was a nice image and left me guessing at how it happened. Did you shrug? Or did it just pop on it’s own? I may never know and that’s okay. Always leave them wanting more, Lauren.

Not only are those nails frightening, but they are also the absolute worst things to do to yourself and those around you, bacteria-wise. I read a HORRIBLE story about rhinestone nails gone wrong that I won’t tell you. Just know that you’re not allowed in my house with those on.

Even though it’s a little over-the-top, that iphone case looks amazing! :)
