Once again it’s fall and I’m overwhelmed and trying to dig myself out. I need a good solid reminder that it’s okay to say no to any and everything and I don’t even have to say why. If want to sit at home on my couch and do nothing I shouldn’t feel guilty about that. But for some reason I never remember this until it’s too late.
But anyway, here are some good things that have happened lately.
1) I bought myself the Naked2 Palette from Urban Decay and am in love. I now want ALL THE MAKEUP.
2) My friend Sahar got married and that meant getting to spend a night with my best friends acting like I was 22 again. I decided that night that no matter how overrated it is, Georgetown Cupcake should be open 24 hours a day.
3) Last year I was too high and mighty to eat candy corn because I was so serious about my diet. This year I’m letting myself indulge because I’m terrified of having another Christmas binge. Isn’t that the way it works?
4) I bought myself this scarf and I love it. Also, I am so happy it’s fall and I can straighten my hair again without having it curl the instant I step outside. Bye humidity!
5) This is not actually on my list but I know my family wants to see these – two pictures of the Master Bathroom in my parents house. Don’t worry, these are the before pictures because very soon they’re starting the renovation. In the meantime my parents are sleeping in twin beds in the guest room like they’re the Cleavers.
Do we think this wallpaper was ever in style or…? I know those brass fixtures were a thing at one point though and thank goodness that’s over.
After pictures to come!
Do you have a certain time of year when you find yourself getting overwhelmed at work and in your social and home life?

My name is Kate. I'm a makeup and coffee addict (and total Jesus freak) fighting to lose over 100 pounds. But there's more to life than losing weight. This is where I try to balance it all - and hilarity ensues.

Video of Aaron dancing up on my aunt to gangnam style will be posting shortly. you’re welcome.
I think right about now is the time where life will get hectic. I’m focused on my health and fitness routine, work 40 hours, have an apartment to clean, social life, and family obligations. There is no time! I have said no to a few things already and put the things I want (or need to do) first. It might be the only way to survive the hectic holiday weeks that are coming. Hang in there!

Thanks, Patty! Yes, holiday time is always stressful. I had a friend ask me this weekend how far in advance she needs to book me for things and I was like, well, June 2013 is filling up so…I was kidding, but I really do need to sit down and make sure I know all my priorities and let those help me choose when to say yes and no to things!
I’m finding impending winter a little overwhelming because it is much harder to get the dogs out for walks and keep the baby warm enough. I’m feeling way less crazed now that C’s baptism is over and the in-laws are gone. Anyways, I so don’t get wallpaper. I’m sure it can look good, but I’ve never seen any that I liked and the peeling would make me crazy.
Oh my gosh, it’s especially bad in bathrooms because the steam keeps the glue from working properly. Ugh. I don’t mind it in small doses, like under a chair rail or just as a relatively neutral texture but mostly it seems like a waste. We used to have wallpaper in 90% of the house too, ugh.
Carmel candy corn is relish! Love it!
Please post pictures of you murdering that wallpaper. It’s quite…special?

It’s definitely….something. I can’t decide if it ever looked good, like if at one point that was a thing (like the retro bathrooms you see all the time on house makeover shows?) or if my parents were just out of their talent zone when they chose it.
I was JUST complaining to my mom about how I seem to be incapable of saying NO to things in the moment, even though in 24 hours I KNOW I will regret having said yes. So she whipped out some little condensed version of 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and said: “you are capable of being responseABLE” — “you should be able to respond to any invitation with your truest answer. If you don’t want to go, then say no. You shouldn’t feel bad about it.” Wise words Obi-Mom Kenobi.
PS: I’m super glad your parents are redoing their bathroom … for everyones sake.

I could not agree more re: the bathroom. Oy.
And you’re right, I need to just remember it’s okay to say no and it doesn’t mean that makes me a bad person or anything.
ALL THE MAKEUP!! haha i hear that in the “ALL THE PINS” voice. also, freaking LOVE that scarf. glad you’re getting to just relax and BE for a little bit!
