I don’t know many people who haven’t had the glorious experience of shopping at Home Goods. It’s the kind of place that’s always fun to at least LOOK around in even if you can’t find what you’re looking for. Truth be told, it’s the kind of store where I usually end up finding at least one thing I didn’t know I just HAD to have before I went in there.
The thing about Home Goods, like every other store (to be fair), is that they have some of those random things you’re never quite sure who might actually WANT. Maybe these things just stick out to me the most at Home Goods because it’s usually the Items of Unusual Size (IoUSes? I’m not sure they exist) that catch my eye as being something I’m not sure how to use.
Take, for example, this large bird’s nest.
I spent an inordinate amount trying to decide how someone would use this. It could be a great centerpiece if you had a table that was big enough. That’s about as far as I got.
But that’s kind of the charm about Home Goods – something for everyone. I’m certain there were very few people who looked at this ceramic poodle and just knew they’d have to find space in their home for it.
My mother joked about it one time and sure enough, my father dispatched me to collect it the next opportunity I had. It now proudly resides in my parents family room.
I suppose you could call it a cautionary poodle. Whatever you do, do not make a joke around a Sullivan. We won’t let you live it down.
Don’t get me wrong, while they have some stuff I’d never dream of taking seriously I’ve also got quite a collection of things that I love from there (throw pillows, my duvet, the vase in the picture below, and on and on). This weekend I found some glorious storage boxes that I knew would match my room (okay, my entire home) in the perfect shade of blue green and cream.
They’re sitting on my dresser for now – I need to do some reorganizing before they’ll look exactly right but I’m so excited about them! I spend an inordinate amount of time imagining how I want my living space to look and I can already think of too many ways to use these.
I did a little more shopping with my mom before I spent the rest of the weekend pretty much laying around feeling gross. I picked up a cold somewhere which is never fun. But at least I didn’t have to feel guilty for being lazy on Sunday and sleeping in (thank you daylight saving time for making me feel really indulgent!). My goal for this week is to get better.
Meanwhile I’ll be over here trying to figure out a use for this Eiffel Tower.
